In addition to the obligations of membership of the bird observatory network (a daily census and a programme of bird ringing), the aims of the Alderney Bird Observatory are:
- To monitor, record and research the bird population of Alderney including its seabirds and seasonal migrants
- To encourage the education of the Island’s residents, children and visitors in the importance of avian ecology
- To report our research statistics and findings to academic groups monitoring climate change
- To advise policy makers on Alderney about matters that affect the avian population
- To encourage eco tourism in Alderney, thereby assisting the island’s economy
