Not much of a ‘fall’ this morning but the ringing did include 5 Pied Flycatchers. Seen passing over Mannez this morning a Hobby.
Also a record in a single day count locally for Greenshanks – 3 together over Longis reserve.

Two busy mornings spent mist netting yesterday and today saw 105 Willow Warblers ringed on the 15th. This morning’s ringing highlights included our 2nd Melodious Warbler in 5 days, 9 Tree Pipits, 22 Whitethroats and a Dartford Warbler. Visual migration has seen small movements of Wheatears both days, 3 Honey Buzzard’s on the 15th and a Greenshank this morning.

A good find by Assistant Warden Matt Scragg this morning, we believe the first ever Alderney record of a colour ringed Sandwich Tern, the Blue colour ring on its left leg was 3 digits ‘HTL’.
Early investigations suggest the bird is likely to be from a colour ringing scheme in Holland. The bird stood in seaweed concealing the ring for long periods but eventually used its colour ringed leg to have a quick preen allowing us to confirm the digits on the ring.
