After yesterdays gale force winds today could not have been more contrasting. Again visual migration was evident with around 1000 Starlings, 500 Fieldfares, 200 Redwings, 50 Chaffinches and 2 Skylarks over Longis common. There was also a noticeable increase in Blackbirds and after several weeks of Robins everywhere it seems the vast majority have finally moved though.

Another productive days ringing saw 75 new birds ringed. Our migration season still extending as the mix of Thrushes and Warblers continued with 36 more Redwings,  3 Blackcaps and a Chiffchaff. Over 700 birds ringed already this month and our favoured NE winds are again forecast. Back to the bare bones of resident ringers we can only wonder at the potential that manning all our ringing sites would bring, and amongst these high volumes of migrants what we have missed !  See ringing page for full list of todays return.
