Just a couple of days ago we managed ‘ring reads in the field’ from 3 different Mediterranean Gulls roosting in Braye Bay. Two of the individuals sported a yellow colour ring and the other a green one. A quick turn around of information sharing has confirmed that two of the Gulls were originally ringed in Germany, the other in France. The movements of colour ringed Gulls have proven an important indicator helping us understand and monitor the spread of avian flu these past two years, thankfully the virus appears to have bypassed us locally this year.
See the attached map (courtesy of Wayne Turner) detailing the historic sightings/movements of one of the German colour ringed Med Gulls visiting Alderney this week.
