Honey Buzzard

Honey Buzzard

Superb day recording all things fauna and flora with Naturetrek Alderney.
The birders amongst the group were delighted with a 2nd encounter with the still present Great Bustard, also a day roosting Nightjar on the track beside the bird observatory.
This afternoon was followed by excellent views of a Honey Buzzard on the west coast. Also 2 Whinchats, Peregrine, Raven and a steady stream of migrating Swallows and Martins.

Image here (heavily cropped) of today’s Honey Buzzard.

Great Bustard

Great Bustard

Great Bustard on Alderney campsite at 10:20 am, spotted during with Naturetrek tour.

This bird is fairly tame, it is one of the hand reared individuals from the Bustard Group breeding project in Salisbury.
It would be much appreciated if dog walkers could avoid the campsite whilst this magnificent bird rests and feeds. This bird is the same female that stopped off in Alderney almost exactly a year ago.

Greenshanks

Greenshanks

We were delighted to be joined this morning by a visiting UK birder who despite 30+mph winds shared in great views of Hobby, Ring Ouzel and Whinchat.
Also a local scarcity 2 Greenshanks, one of which was colour tagged and ringed. The birds were rather distant and only on examination of the enlarged images did we notice the tagged individual.
