A productive short spell on the offshore rock Coque Lihou yesterday delivering seabird ringing research.
This produced a wonderful surprise as our small team discovered nesting Storm Petrels! The Petrels have only been known to breed on the islet of Burhou and though we have long suspected they may breed at other locations locally, until now we’ve had no definitive proof. We are soon to begin fitting transmitters to a limited number of Storm Petrels in the hope of further understanding the behaviour and movements of this species, this research may even reveal further undiscovered breeding sites.
