A very confiding first year male Marsh Harrier patrolled Longis reserve for about an hour this morning. There was a good passage of Meadow Pipits and Chaffinches over and 1 Skylark. Robin and Song Thrush numbers were up again today after yesterdays lull in thier strong passage this week. A Ring Ouzel went to and from the the Gorse in front of Lonigs pond and the conifers at the north end on the pond and behind the pond. On the gorse bank there was a very well marked Whinchat. Other sightings include a flock of 40 Redwings on the Golf Course and 3 Bar-tailed Godwits in Longis bay.
Belated records from the 8th Oct are of a Kingfisher at Longis pond and the White Chaffinch (featured in this blog in May) is still present in the vacinity The Butes.
Ringing today saw fewer passerines caught and I don’t have the totals in yet but new birds included 2 more new Yellow-browed Warblers ringed at Mannez quarry.
