News already in revealing the history of the Mediterranean Gull we spotted in Braye Bay on Saturday. The bird wearing the coded red ring was first ringed as a chick over 10yrs ago at a colony at Palic Lake in northern Serbia almost 1700km from Alderney. This individual has been recorded in France and Hungary since 2009 but to date Alderney is the furthest it has ever travelled from the colony where it hatched. A very good record in terms of the distribution of these gulls but some way to go in terms of the longevity record for this species which currently stands at 22yrs!
