This morning there was a Hobby over the Obs and around Essex farm off and on for about an hour. During the day Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, Peregrine and Common Buzzard were in the same area.
Hobby was also reported from Mannez at mid day and from the airport mid afternoon where at about 3pm 4 Black Kite were viewed by our visiting UK birders Clive Williams and Liz Hogben. The Kites were in the vicinity of Les Etacs and the airport viewed for the best part of 20 minutes before they headed out to sea travelling West. A White Stork was seen Paul Veron over the lighthouse at 1300hrs from where it drifted towards Longis and out to sea towards France. On Longis beach were at least 6 Whimbrel,,1 Dunlin, 1Grey Plover, 6 Shelduck and a Cormorant. A Hoopoe was reported from Houmet Herbe and Bee-eater (heard only) over Mannez. The Grasshopper Warbler was still singing opposite the Obs. In the nets and reported from several locations were high numbers of Spotted Flycatcher today with at least 20 in the community woodland and a furhter 10 along the footpath around the airport. Indeed I had 6 Spotted Flycatcher in one tree in Barrackmasters lane. 2 Siskin were also seen at Mannez. This evening there were another half-dozen Spotted Flycatchers and a Whinchat at the East end of Longis nature reserve.
Ringing
We had our 2nd Sedge Warbler UK control this morning at Essex Farm. Ringing also took place at Mannez today the combined new birds total 73. Including 10 Spotted Flycatcher, 1 Common Redstart, 16 Sedge Warblers, 12 Whitethroat, 10 Chiffchaff including a part leucistic Chiffchaff (pictured below) 4 Garden Warbler, 1 Song Thrush, 1 Willow Warbler and our first Woodpigeon.
