A Siskin flew over Obs first thing this morning and a fine male White Wagtail was calling from the Obs roof top. A mixed group of 11 Swallows, 5 House Martin and a Sand Martin were feeding for a couple of hours over Longis reserve pond and the group of Whimbrel were present on Longis Common but had dropped in number to 3. With no birders currently visiting the island our coverage is frustratingly limited but hopefully it won’t be too long before that changes. There were several Common Blue blutterflies around Longis reserve today and Lindsay Pyne spotted our first Comma of the year.
Trois Vaux valley with Alderneys two gannetries in the background both now in full flow with around 7,ooo breeding pairs, quite a spectacle from the South cliffs.
Ringing : Spring migration is definitely slowing down for us now but migrant birds continue to arrive here and 25 new birds were ringed today. These included 1 Garden Warbler, 1 Goldcrest, 2 Whitethroat, 4 Reed Warbler, 6 Sedge Warbler and 7 Chiffchaff.
