Heavy fog all morning was only eventually pushed away by rising winds for a few hours this afternoon but it soon returned. A foggy day gives me the opportunity to present the two juvenile Starlings ringed yesterday afternoon. The photos demonstrate that sexing this species is quite easy even on recently fledged birds like these two. The 1st shot is of a female, the 2nd a male. The female has a distinct pale circle around the iris, not present in males who’s eyes look distinctly darker. See photos below
