A late record from Catherine Veron yesterday evening is of a Kingfisher passing through Corbelets Bay. This species does not breed in Alderney and this sighting is likely the first record of juvenile birds passing through Alderney. At this time of year, juvenile Kingfishers disperse from their breeding sites, and the ones we see are likely juveniles from France or the UK mainland. Catherine also reported a Common Sandpiper on the Mannez Lighthouse rocks at lunchtime today.
AWT conservation officer Robert heard a Green Sandpiper over Essex Farm this morning and reports a Common Sandpiper at Little Saye Bay.
Visiting wildlife enthusiasts Liz and Malcolm Turner sent in a very enthusiastic email outlining the wildlife highlights of their recent trip here. They also kindly included for us some super shots of an Alderney resident they came across that is not seen too often; Slow Worms.
