Nice to see an old friend this morning, a reminder of our progress was this Herring Gull photographed on Crabby beach today, it was one of the first seabirds the ABO team colour ringed during 2016 on Burhou Island soon after the observatory launched. Ringed ‘6KV6’ whilst a pre-fledged chick, more than 5 years ago the ABO have been annually continuing the superb Gull ringing program started and maintained by the Channel Islands Bird ringing Scheme in 2009, now a comprehensive and impressive database thanks to thousands of field observations of the colour rings revealing the seasonal movements and longevity of hundreds of Lesser black-backed Gulls and Herring Gulls from Alderney.
