More interesting records today included a Great Crested Grebe (locally rare) on the sea off the lighthouse this morning. Field observations of a high tide roost of 6 Mediterranean Gulls included two individuals wearing colour rings from which the combination of numbers/letters on each ring were recorded (one bird wearing a white ring, the other a red one). We do occasionally record this species wearing a white colour ring in Alderney and these usually transpire to be from Holland or Belgium. The other ringed bird sporting a red ring may possibly have been ringed in Serbia; if confirmed this would be the first ring recovery/control sighting for Alderney from that country.
