November 8th

Our day began with a magnificent pod of around 50 Bottle nosed dolphins passing just off shore of Mannez lighthouse.

We are continuing to see very large numbers of passerines into the second weeek of November. Some 1000 Starlings passed over Longis this morning along with 200+Fieldfares. Roland Guavain saw a Woodcock this morning and another was on Longis reserve.

98 new birds were ringed this morning;  1 Woodcock, 61 Redwings, 2 Fieldfares, 8 Blackbirds, 3 Song Thrushes, 4 Blackcaps, 3 Chiffchaffs, 1 Yellow browed Warbler, 5 Goldcrests, 1 Firecrest, 5 Wrens, 1 Robin, 1 Great Tit and 2 Reed Buntings.

Below a photo of the 2 Reed Buntings we ringed at Longis this morning, both are males, the bird on the left as you look at the picture is a 1st winter bird, and on the right an adult.
